On January 28, 2019, the United States entered into a settlement agreement with one of the defendants in United States v. The Home Loan Auditors (N.D. Cal.), a Fair Housing Act case.  This follows settlement agreements against other defendants on August 2, August 21, November 2, and December 6, 2018.  Under the terms of the settlements, the defendants agreed to provisions including injunctive relief, contributions to a victim restitution fund and Fair Housing Act training. The amended complaint, which was filed on May 9, 2017, alleges that the defendant companies and their principals targeted Hispanic homeowners for the sale of “forensic home loan audits” that were not necessary for securing mortgage loan modifications.  Litigation against the remaining defendants is ongoing.
